Kellerman's Resort Fall Activities

Fall colours and more...

Each year Ontario's harvest is set against the incredible spectacle of changing fall colours and it’s a wonderful time for countryside touring. From mid-September to late October the splendour of flaming red maple, deep yellow poplar and white-barked birch becomes the backdrop for touring artisan studios, enjoying fall photography workshops and hunting for great antiques. This is the perfect time to hit the road, whether in your car or on your motorcycle, and discover so much more than the leaves.

With its infamous coastline and wind-tortured pines, the Georgian Bay has inspired artists and explorers alike for a hundred years. Whether you're up for a fall cruise through the 30,000 islands, extravagantly sculpted over time by wind and wave, a scenic driving tour, or wish to explore the region by air, the options are yours.

In nearby Parry Sound, climb the 96-foot lookout at Tower Hill for a breath-taking view of the bay. Legendary hockey star Bobby Orr hails from here and the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame, with its two floors of zones, exhibits and interactive games, is a must-see for hockey fans. As you enter you’ll be intrigued by the hockey rink suspended in mid-air approximately ten feet overhead. A portion of the rink boards has been replaced with glass allowing you to view visitors participating in the Hall's interactive games. To explore the beautiful Thirty Thousand Island region of Georgian Bay, recently designated by the United Nations as a Biosphere Reserve, hop aboard the Island Queen.

Cruises depart from the town dock in Parry Sound for two and three-hour sightseeing cruises, travelling into narrow channels and surprisingly close to shorelines, maximizing your opportunities for great photos and allowing for exploration of out-of-the-way places.

There are several provincial parks in the Parry Sound area, including Oastler Lake, Massasauga and Killbear, as well as numerous provincial conservation reserves. A 230-kilometre recreational trail, the Park-to-Park Trail, connects Killbear with Algonquin Provincial Park near Dwight, with a second proposed extension connecting to another site east of Kearney.

There are also guided ATV tours of the region's wilderness throughout the year.

Parry Sound's Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary cares for injured and orphaned animals, and has limited daily tourist hours as an informational and interpretive centre for wildlife education.

The Parry Sound coastline is home to the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve, one of only 13 UNESCO sites in Canada. The eastern coast of Georgian Bay where Parry Sound is located is known as the "30,000 Islands" and is considered the world's largest freshwater archipelago. It covers 347,000 hectares of shoreline ecosystem, and over 100 species of animals and plants that are at risk in Canada and Ontario, including unique reptiles and amphibians.

Sightseeing tours of the 30,000 Islands are offered by Georgian Bay Airways, and the Island Queen and MV Chippawa cruise ships. White Squall Outfitters offers kayak and canoe rentals and tours during the spring, summer, fall as well as winter sporting gear rentals during the winter.
